Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) – Brandon Polk’s putback with 2.0 seconds
left proved to be the difference, as the Butler Bulldogs slipped past the
Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 53-52, in the opening round of the NIT from Hinkle

Polk finished the game with just nine points on 4-of-11 shooting from the
floor, as Butler (20-12) improved to 5-7 all-time in the NIT. A.J. Graves led
the way for the Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points, while Bruce Horan chipped
in 12 points.

Tim Pollitz guided the RedHawks (18-11) in defeat with a double-double that
consisted of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Miami-Ohio held Butler to just a 30.8 percent shooting effort from the field
in the first half, as it took a 27-22 lead into the break.

With the RedHawks ahead 52-51 with 26 seconds remaining in the game, Butlers’
Avery Sheets drove to the basket and missed a shot, which Polk than rebounded
and layed in for the one-point victory.

The Bulldogs forced 16 turnovers in the game, while committing just seven
themselves. Butler will now take on Florida State in the first round of the
NIT on Friday.
