Turnovers plague BYU in NIT loss to Houston

Houston, TX (Sports Network) – Oliver Lafayette scored 23 points to lead the
Houston Cougars to a 77-67 victory over the BYU Cougars in the first round of
the NIT.

Ramon Dyer pitched in 14 points for Houston (21-9), which will take on the
winner of Friday’s game between Missouri State and Stanford. Houston also got
nine points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and five steals from Lanny Smith.

Trent Plaisted netted 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the loss for
BYU (20-9). Keena Young added 11 points in defeat.

Houston led 36-26 at intermission despite shooting 1-of-13 from three-point
range in the first half.

Despite an 8-of-19 effort from the foul line in the second half, Houston was
able to hold on for the win.

BYU committed a staggering total of 25 turnovers, the most obvious
contributing factor in the loss.
