Michigan rolls on with victory over UTEP
Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) – Chris Hunter scored 20 points and pulled down
eight rebounds to lead the Michigan Wolverines to an 82-67 victory over the
UTEP Miners in first round action in the NIT.
Dion Harris added 18 points for Michigan (19-10), while Daniel Horton
contributed 14 points and nine assists. Brent Petway tallied 10 points off the
bench in the win.
Jason Williams registered 25 points and pulled down eight boards for UTEP
(21-10), while Miguel Ayala added 15 points and Will Kimble chipped in 10.
The Wolverines connected on 7-of-11 shots from behind the arc in the opening
frame to take a 44-34 lead into the break.
In the second stanza, Michigan shot an impressive 54.2 percent from the field
en route to the 15-point victory.
The Wolverines made 11-of-21 shots from long range in the contest, while UTEP
connected on just 6-of-19 attempts from behind the arc.
The Wolverines will now battle the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the second
round of the NIT.
