Roy leads Huskies to win over Utah State; Illinois next

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) – Brandon Roy netted a game-high 28 points and
dished out five assists to pace Washington past the Utah State Aggies, 75-61,
in an Oakland bracket first-round game at Cox Arena.

Jamaal Williams had 15 points while Bobby Jones and Justin Dentmon contributed
11 points apiece for the fifth-seeded Huskies (25-6), who are attempting to
reach the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive year. Washington will now face
fourth-seeded Illinois on Saturday.

Jaycee Carroll poured in 21 points and added six rebounds for No. 12 seed Utah
State (23-9), which lost to Washington for the first time in its last four
tries. Nate Harris posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards, and
Chaz Spicer donated 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

This and all of the games out of San Diego were briefly overshadowed by a bomb
scare earlier in the day.

A threat of suspicious activity caused the evacuation of the building during
the morning and delayed the start of the Marquette-Alabama game for an hour
and 10 minutes. All of the games following, as a result, were pushed back from
their original start times.

During a pre-game security check, two bomb-sniffing dogs were alarmed by a
vendor cart inside the stadium around three hours before the scheduled tip of
the first game. The building was immediately cleared before authorities
determined the arena to be completely safe.
