Missouri State wins thriller over Houston in the NIT

Springfield, MO (Sports Network) – Nathan Bilyeu putback a rebound with 2.3
seconds remaining in regulation and also connected on a foul shot to complete
a three-point play, as the Missouri State Bears posted a thrilling 60-59
victory over the Houston Cougars in the second round of the NIT Tournament.

Bilyeu finished the contest with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists,
while Kellen Easley posted a double-double for Missouri State (22-8), scoring
14 points to go along with 11 rebounds.

Lanny Smith registered a game-high 21 points for Houston (21-10), while Ramon
Dyer tallied 16 points in the setback.

Despite shooting 38.7 percent from the field in the opening frame, the Cougars
made 8-of-24 attempts from long range to go into the break with a slim 37-36
lead.

In the second stanza, the Bears held Houston to a putrid 25.8 percent shooting
effort from the floor en route to the one-point victory.

Missouri State’s reserves scored 19 points in the contest, while Houston’s
bench posted just two points.

The Missouri State Bears will now battle the Louisville Cardinals in the
quarterfinals.
