Rutgers to name Hill men’s basketball coach

Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) – Associate coach Fred Hill will be named the
next men’s basketball coach at Rutgers. The university has scheduled a press
conference for 1 p.m. (et) Monday to announce the hiring.

Hill will replace Gary Waters, who resigned on March 2 after five up-and-down
seasons at the helm. Waters compiled a 79-75 mark with two NIT appearances,
but never led the Scarlet Knights to the NCAA Tournament.

Rutgers (19-14) ended the regular season with a 71-62 loss to Saint Joseph’s
in the first round of the postseason NIT.

Before coming to Piscataway, Hill served as an assistant coach at Seton Hall
and Villanova, demonstrating the coach’s recruiting ties in the tri-state
