Villanova beats BC in OT thriller on goaltending call
Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) – Kyle Lowry found Will Sheridan going
backdoor with three seconds left in overtime to lead Villanova to a thrilling
60-59 overtime win over Boston College in the Minneapolis Regional semifinals
of the NCAA Tournament at the Metrodome.
Sheridan’s layup attempt was blocked, but it was already coming off the
backboard and Sean Williams was whistled for goaltending.
Louis Hinnant’s running desperation three came up short at the buzzer and
Randy Foye had a game-high 29 points for the top-seeded Wildcats (28-4), who
move on to a regional final for the first time since 1988. Allan Ray added
nine points for Villanova while Lowry finished with seven in the win.
Craig Smith and Jared Dudley (28-8) both netted 14 points for the fourth-
seeded Eagles. who were attempting to reach their first regional final since
1994. Sean Marshall chipped in with 12 points in the loss.
The Wildcats will now move on to face the Florida – Georgetown winner in the
Minneapolis region final on Sunday.
