Butch Beard resigns from Morgan State

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – Butch Beard announced on Tuesday he is
resigning as head men’s basketball coach at Morgan State University effective
immediately.

This past season, Beard led the Bears to a 4-26 record and a first-round loss
in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament.

“I’m leaving Morgan State to pursue other opportunities and wish Morgan State
and its basketball program success in the future,” said Beard.

Beard was named head coach in 2001 and has struggled at the helm, compiling a
39-105 record.

In seven years as a college head coach, Beard has compiled an all-time record
of 79-184 with Howard University and Morgan State.

“I would like to thank Morgan State University for the opportunity to coach
the men’s basketball team for the last five years,” Beard said. “In addition,
I would like to thank all the past and present student athletes for their hard
work and dedication.”
