Wichita, KS (Sports Network) – Wichita State announced on Monday that head
men’s basketball coach Mark Turgeon has agreed to a long-term contract

The new deal will run through 2016 according to director of athletics Jim

“It is great news to have Mark Turgeon agree to a long-term extension with
Wichita State,” said Schaus. “Mark has directed the resurgence of Shocker
basketball and has earned our commitment to the highest level. He and his
staff have done an incredible job, and they all need to know how much they are
genuinely loved and appreciated. It has been a magical year and you still feel
that more great things can be in store in the future.”

Last season, the Shockers went 26-9 and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for
the first time since 1988. They defeated Tennessee to make it to the regional
semifinals, but lost to George Mason, which advanced to the Final Four.

They also won the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title for the
first time since 1983.
