St. Louis center declares for draft
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) – Saint Louis University center Ian Vouyoukas
declared his eligibility for the NBA Draft on Monday, but he will not hire an
agent in order to keep open the option of returning to school for his senior
Vouyoukas, an Athens, Greece native, averaged 13.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and
1.9 blocks per game last season. The 6-foot-10, 270-pounder was selected
first-team All-Atlantic 10, helping the Billikens to a 16-13 mark.
“After a solid season this year, I would like to see where I stand as a player
and realistically judge my ability in relation to the NBA draft,” said
Vouyoukas, who was named the conference’s most improved player after the
2005-06 season. “It has been my lifelong dream to pursue an NBA career. My
family and I believe now is the best time to utilize the process that is
available to us and keep my option open to continue my career at Saint Louis.”
Vouyoukas has until June 18 to withdraw his name from the draft and return to
Saint Louis. The draft will take place on June 28.
