NIT MVP enters NBA Draft
Columbia, SC (Sports Network) – South Carolina junior Renaldo Balkman
announced on Thursday he will make himself eligible for the NBA Draft, but
will not hire an agent.
Balkman averaged 9.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for the
Gamecocks last season and was named the MVP of the NIT Championship as South
Carolina won its second straight title in the tournament.
During the NIT, Balkman netted 23 points with eight rebounds in the Gamecocks’
semi-final win over Louisville and followed that up with a 10 point, 12 rebound
performance in the final against Michigan.
“It is my hope that I will be invited to the NBA Pre-Draft Camp in Orlando in
June,” said Balkman. “Until a final decision is made, I will concentrate on my
academics and improving my basketball skills.”
Balkman’s best game of the 2005-06 campaign came on February 14 as he set a
career high in points with 28 while tying a career high with 16 rebounds. In
104 games over his three-year college career, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged
7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds.
