Walters taking over at Florida Atlantic

Boca Raton, FL (Sports Network) – Florida Atlantic has named Rex Walters as
its new men’s basketball coach, replacing Matt Doherty.

Walters, a former first-round pick of the 1993 NBA Draft, worked as an
associate head coach under Doherty last season after spending the previous two
years as an assistant at Valparaiso.

“This is a great day for me and my family,” said Walters. “I am so excited to
take over the reins for Matt Doherty and will continue to build this program
until we take our place among the best in college basketball.”

Doherty left Florida Atlantic after one season to become the head coach at
Southern Methodist University. The Owls finished the season with a 15-13

Walters, who played collegiately at Kansas, spent seven seasons in the NBA,
playing for New Jersey, Philadelphia and Miami.
