Joplin gets three more years at Toledo
Toledo, OH (Sports Network) – The University of Toledo announced on Thursday
that they have agreed to a three-year contract extension with men’s
basketball coach Stan Joplin. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Joplin’s contract was due to expire at the end of June, but the extension will
keep him in charge of the Rockets through the 2008-09 season.
Joplin piloted Toledo to a 20-11 mark last season, the third 20-win campaign
in his 10-year tenure. He guided the Rockets to an appearance in the MAC
Conference championship game, thanks to a string of 10-consecutive wins.
“We’re very pleased to announce that Stan’s contract is being extended for
another three years,” said athletic director Mike O’Brien. “During Stan’s
tenure he has brought success to our basketball program as evidenced by having
one of the best records in the MAC over the last decade. That combined with
this past year’s success both on and off the court shows that our men’s
basketball program is headed for a very successful future.”
Joplin, a graduate of Toledo in 1979, has led his alma mater to a 173-123 mark
in his 10 seasons at the helm. He ranks second all-time in wins in school
history, and his .584 winning percentage places him eighth all-time in MAC
Conference history among coaches who have coached five or more seasons.
