Coles signs extension with RedHawks
Oxford, OH (Sports Network) – Miami University of Ohio signed men’s head
basketball coach Charlie Coles to a three-year contract extension on
Thursday. The deal runs through the 2008-09 season.
“I am pleased that Charlie has a strong desire to continue leading our men’s
basketball program,” said Miami athletic director Brad Bates. “Behind his
charismatic disposition is the heart of a fiery competitor who demands maximum
effort to achieve the lofty goals the team places upon themselves.”
Coles, who is entering his 11th season at the helm for the RedHawks, has a
175-126 record with Miami, and is just 42 wins away from surpassing Darrell
Hedric for most victories in program history.
Behind Coles, the RedHawks have captured three MAC Championships (1997, 1999,
2005), a MAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament four
times. In 1999, Miami made its first-ever Sweet 16 appearance.
Coles, who is a 1965 Miami graduate, was a three-year letter winner and two-
time All-MAC selection for the red and white. He was inducted into Miami’s
Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.
