McNeese State names Simmons new basketball coach

Lake Charles, LA (Sports Network) – McNeese State announced at a news
conference on Tuesday that Dave Simmons will take over as the school’s new
men’s basketball coach.

Simmons spent the past seven years as an assistant coach at Northwestern State
and returns to McNeese State, where he was as an assistant coach for seven
years earlier in his career.

The DeRidder, Louisiana native has two years of head coaching experience at
Edward Waters College. He had a record of 27-29 with the NAIA institution.

Northwestern State won the Southland Conference title last year and posted a
first-round victory over Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament. In all, Simmons
was an assistant coach for three Southland Conference champions (McNeese
State, Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech).

Simmons replaces Tic Price, who was fired after going 74-68 in five seasons at
McNeese State.
