Alford receives contract extension
Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) – University of Iowa head men’s basketball
coach Steve Alford has been awarded a one-year contract extension by director
of athletics Gary Barta.
The five-year agreement will extend through June 30, 2011. Salary and other
terms of the deal are not affected.
“Steve is a good coach and a good person,” added Barta. “He’s committed to
making himself and his program better. I look forward to working with him and
his team in the years ahead.”
Iowa finished the 2005-06 season with a record of 25-9. The 25 wins were the
second highest total in school history. The Hawkeyes won the Big Ten
Tournament title, but were upset by Northwestern State in the first round of
the NCAA Tournament on a last-second shot.
“I appreciate the support and confidence Gary and the UI administration has
shown our program,” said Alford. “We look forward to building on our past
success and we’re excited about the future. This solidifies Gary’s trust in
the overall state of the program and the direction we are heading in all
