Toledo basketball player dies after collapsing

Toledo, OH (Sports Network) – Toledo basketball player Haris Charalambous
collapsed at the start of morning conditioning on Monday and passed away. He
was 21.

The school said Charalambous, a 6-foot-10 junior center from Manchester,
England, was transported to a local hospital where he died.

CPR was performed at the scene by athletic trainers until paramedics arrived.
The exact cause of death will not be known until the Lucas County Coroner
report becomes available.

“This is a tragic and unexpected situation,” said University spokesperson
Lawrence J. Burns, vice president for enrollment services, marketing and
communications. “This has been a shock to our entire athletic program and
University. Our thoughts are with Haris’ family, who has been notified of this

Charalambous played in 23 games and averaged 0.8 points and 0.8 rebounds in
5.4 minutes per contest last season.
