Texas begins season with rout of Alcorn State

Austin, TX (Sports Network) – Kevin Durant scored 20 points as the 21st-
ranked Texas Longhorns opened their season with a 103-44 annihilation of
Alcorn State in the opening round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.

A.J. Abrams and Damion James each scored 13 points to lead a balanced scoring
attack for the Longhorns (1-0), who won a school-record 30 games last season
en route to an appearance in the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

Texas will next face Chicago State in the second round of the tournament on

Delvin Thompson scored a team-high 15 points for the Braves (0-1), who are
coming off a disappointing 8-20 season last year that saw the team go winless,
0-10, in the SWAC.

Surprisingly, Texas got off to a slow start and Alcorn State held an early 9-1
lead. However, James’ dunk ignited a 19-0 run and the blowout was on. Craig
Winder’s layup capped the scoring spurt that made it a 20-9 game midway
through the first half.

The Braves would scored just nine more points the rest of the half as Texas
took a 48-18 lead into the locker room and outscored Alcorn State, 55-26 in
the second half.

Game Notes
