Devendorf, Orange down UTEP
Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) – Eric Devendorf scored 19 points and grabbed
eight rebounds to lead the 20th-ranked Syracuse Orange to an 83-69 win over
the Texas-El Paso Miners in the final of the BCA Invitational.
Devendorf was among five Orange players to score double-digit points,
including Matt Gorman and Demetris Nichols, who scored 12 apiece. Paul Harris
scored 11 for Syracuse, and Josh Wright and Darryl Watkins added 10 each.
Terrance Roberts pulled down 11 rebounds for Syracuse (3-0).
Darren Clarke and Stefon Jackson both scored 17 points for UTEP (2-1). Malik
Alvin added 11 for the Miners.
The Orange sealed the game with a 13-0 run that pushed a 47-40 lead to a 60-40
advantage with just over 12 minutes left in the game.
The Miners kept it close early, and a dunk by Jackson brought UTEP to within
22-19 with just over nine minutes left in the first half. The Orange pulled
away, though, and a Gorman jumper gave the Orange a 42-33 lead at
UTEP shot only 30 percent from the field, 23-for-76…The Orange had 41 free
throw shots, to only 18 free throws for the Miners…Syracuse blocked 11 UTEP
shots, the Miners only blocked one Syracuse attempt.
