Tennessee slips past Fordham in NIT Season Tip-Off

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) – Chris Lofton scored 30 points, as 25th-ranked
Tennessee survived a late rally by Fordham to beat the Rams, 78-71, to advance
to the second round of the NIT Season Tip-off.

Duke Crews had 11 points and Ryan Childress scored nine for the Volunteers
(2-0), who made 9-of-25 three-pointers in the game at the Gaylord
Entertainment Center.

Brenton Butler had 20 points and Marcus Stout added 16 for Fordham (1-1),
which shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) in the second half, but couldn’t overcome
29 turnovers.

Tennessee, which led 40-28 at the half, was hurt by 26 turnovers, but still
managed to advance to round two of the tournament to meet UNC-Wilmington.

Tennessee held a 14-point lead with just under eight minutes remaining before
the Rams pulled within 75-71 with 1 1/2 minutes left on a jam by Stout.
However, the Vols held on despite going 3-of-13 on three-pointers in the
second half.

The Vols also had 11 steals.

Game Notes

Tennessee was coming off a 83-52 win over Middle Tennessee State on
Friday…The Vols lead the all-time series, 3-1.
