UConn rolls past Central Arkansas

Hartford, CT (Sports Network) – Jerome Dyson scored 20 points to lead the
21st-ranked Connecticut Huskies to a 88-59 rout of the Central Arkansas Bears
in the opening round of the Hispanic College Fund Classic at the Hartford
Civic Center.

Jeff Adrien had 14 points and 11 rebounds while Stanley Robinson netted 13 for
the Huskies (2-0), who connected on 50 percent of their shots from the field.

Frederick Campbell scored 15 points and Marcus Pillow added 11 for the Bears
(1-2), who shot 36 percent from the floor.

Connecticut jumped out to a 26-9 lead, paced by A.J. Price, who tallied eight

Pillow’s jumper cut the deficit to 26-13, but the Huskies reeled off an 11-2
run, capped by Curtis Kelly’s dunk, extending the lead to 37-15.

Central Arkansas, though, closed the half scoring 13 of the final 20 points,
highlighted by treys from Campbell and Pillow, narrowing the gap to 44-28.

Connecticut scored eight of the first 12 points of the second half, ending
with Marcus Johnson’s three-point play, for a 52-32 margin.

Nate Bowie’s layup with 10:35 to play cut the lead to 17, 63-46, but that was
as close as Central Arkansas would get. UConn scored the next 10 points to put
the game away.

Game Notes

Bowie finished with 10 points…Price had 12 points and dished out eight
assists…The Huskies scored 28 points of 18 Central Arkansas turnovers…The
Bears play Ole Miss while UConn welcomes Fairfield to the Hartford Civic
Center on Saturday…The Huskies have a 21-game home winning streak. They have
won 12 straight contests at the Hartford Civic Center.
