12th-ranked Aggies bomb Billikens

College Station, TX (Sports Network) – Acie Law scored 23 points and Joseph
Jones added 11 to lead the 12th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies to a 69-33 stomping of
the Saint Louis Billikens to win the inaugural Shelby Metcalf Classic.

Antanas Kavaliauskas added eight points and nine rebounds for the Aggies
(4-0), who have won four straight to open the season.

Tommie Liddell was the only Billiken to crack double-digits in scoring on a
dreadful night from the field for Saint Louis (3-1). The Billikens shot 20.8
percent from the field, including a 2-of-13 night from behind the arc on their
way to the 36-point drubbing.

“We got embarrassed tonight,” said Saint Louis head coach Brad Soderberg. “I
think we’re better than we showed, but the bottom line is that the better team
won tonight”

Ian Vouyoukas scored six and grabbed 13 rebounds for Saint Louis.

The Aggies took control of the game in the last 10 minutes of the first half.
A lay-up by Luke Meyer brought Saint Louis to within 18-11 with 9:48 left in
the first half. However, Saint Louis would not score again until a Liddell
lay-up with 30 seconds left, a more than nine-minute drought in which Texas
A&M would go on a 14-0 run to take control of the game.

“We did a good job as a team in taking away the transition points and
baskets,” said Law. “I think we did a good job tonight defensively.”

Texas A&M took a 34-13 lead into the break and it was the same story in the
second half for the Billikens, as the Aggies outscored them 35-20 to provide
the final margin.

Game Notes

No Saint Louis player other than Liddell hit more than two field goals on the
night…The 33 points allowed by the Aggies are the fewest allowed since
January 16, 1959, when A&M beat Texas 73-29…A&M has won 10 straight games at
home since losing to Kansas last season.
