Maryland cruises past High Point
College Park, MD (Sports Network) – Ekene Ibekwe scored 16 points to lead a
balanced Maryland attack as the 25th-ranked Terrapins easily bested High
Point, 81-63, at the Comcast Center.
James Gist added 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting and eight rebounds for Maryland
(7-0), who won their second straight since capturing the 2K Sports College
Hoops Classic. D.J. Strawberry also had 15 points while Greivis Vasquez added
11 for the Terrapins.
Arizona Reid dropped in a game-high 19 points but turned the ball over six
times for the Panthers (3-3), who fell to 2-22 all-time against ACC foes. Mike
Jefferson was the only other High Point player in double figures with 16
The Terps never trailed in the game but had a tough time pulling away from the
underdog Panthers. High Point trailed by just four points at the half but
Maryland dominated from the line en route to an easy victory.
The Terrapins finished 19-of-25 from the charity stripe and High Point was
just 2-of-6 in the game.
Maryland used a 9-2 burst to open the second half and take control. The flurry
gave the Terps a double-digit cushion, 46-35, and the Panthers never got
closer then nine points the rest of the way.
Ibekwe had to leave the game after injuring his left ankle with under two
minutes left…This was the first meeting between the two schools…The Terps
now move on to battle Illinois in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
