Wichita State shocks LSU on hardwood
Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) – Ryan Martin scored 12 points to help the
No. 24 Wichita State Shockers upset sixth-ranked LSU, 57-53.
A jumper by Karon Bradley gave Wichita State (4-0) its first lead of the game
at 52-50 with 1:49 left in the game, and the Shockers were able to hit their
free throws and hold on defensively for the win over an LSU team that returns
four starters from its Final Four team from last season.
Bradley hit four free throws down the stretch.
“I was proud of our group,” said Wichita State head coach Mark Turgeon. “You
see a lot of upsets happening out there, but not many of them are on the

Glen Davis led LSU (2-1) with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Darnell Lazare added
11 points for the Tigers.
“We did not do anything consistently well on offense,” said LSU head coach
John Brady. “We had some opportunities, but we just didn’t execute as well as
LSU led by 11 in the first half, and by nine early in the second, but was
unable to hold off a Wichita State team which outscored the Tigers, 34-24, in
the second half.
LSU cruised out to a fast start, opening the game on a 14-4 run. A lay-up by
Magnum Rolle gave the Tigers an 18-7 lead with 9:10 left in the first half,
their largest lead of the game.
Wichita State was never far out of reach, however, as it cut the deficit to
29-23 by the end of the half.
Wichita State only sank 2-of-14 from behind the three-point line, and LSU
wasn’t much better, hitting only 2-of-9…The Shockers held their own down low
with Davis, only being outrebounded as a team by 33-31, and actually
outscoring the Tigers in the paint 36-28…Wichita State has now beaten two
members of last season’s Final Four, as the Shockers took down George Mason
72-66 on November 18.
