Duke dominates Davidson again
Durham, NC (Sports Network) – Josh McRoberts posted 14 points and nine
rebounds, as the ninth-ranked Duke Blue Devils, coming off their first loss of
the 2006-07 season, routed the Davidson Wildcats, 75-47, in non-conference
action from Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Jon Scheyer also scored 14 points for the Blue Devils (5-1), who won their
first four games this season, including three games in the College Basketball
Experience Classic, but finally met their match in the championship game of
the event, falling to nationally-ranked Marquette, 73-62. Brian Zoubek notched
12 points and seven boards, and Gerald Henderson added 10 points.
Jason Richards scored 17 points as the only player in double figures for the
Wildcats (4-3), while Andrew Lovedale posted nine points and 10 rebounds, and
William Archambault added eight points.
Duke shot out to an early 22-10 lead with 6:27 remaining, and closed the first
half on a 9-0 run, sparked by a Scheyer free throw with 3:17 left. The Devils
staked a commanding 34-18 halftime advantage.
Duke retained control through the second half, and went on a 14-3 spurt,
capped by a pair of Zoubek free throws with 6:13 left for a 62-37 lead.
Duke shot 24-for-46 (52.2 percent) from the field, compared to 18-for-63 (28.6
percent) by the Wildcats. The Devils also outshot Davidson from beyond the
arc, finishing 5-for-9 (55.6 percent) compared to a dismal 3-for-19 (15.8
percent) by the Wildcats.
This longstanding series has Duke leading by a substantial margin, 85-17. The
Blue Devils have won 20 straight against Davidson.
