Oden expected to debut for Buckeyes
Columbus, OH (Sports Network) – Ohio State freshman center Greg Oden is
expected to make his debut Saturday when the third-ranked Buckeyes take on
Valparaiso at Value City Arena.
The seven-foot Oden has been recovering from June surgery to repair a torn
ligament in his right wrist. He was hurt during his senior season at Lawrence
North High School in Indianapolis.
It was initially thought Oden would be sidelined until late December or even
January, but the Columbus Dispatch quoted an Ohio State athletic department
spokesman as saying tests were done Friday and a consultation with Oden’s
surgeon provided the go-ahead for the two-time national high school player of
the year to get “some minutes.”
Oden was Indiana’s Mr. Basketball in 2006 and led his school to three state
title game appearances, winning twice. He was likely headed for the NBA
straight out of high school until the league passed an age restriction rule.
