Raivio, No. 22 Gonzaga get by Texas

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) – Derek Raivio couldn’t miss — burying seven
threes on his way to 27 points — and No. 22 Gonzaga staked another claim to
its national prominence with a 87-77 victory over Texas in the afternoon game
at the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge.

Raivio made 7-of-14 from beyond the arc while backcourt mate Jeremy Pargo had
18 points for the Bulldogs (8-1), who have won three straight since a loss in
the NIT final to Butler.

Josh Heytvelt added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Gonzaga, which shot 50
percent from the floor.

Freshman Kevin Durant led all scorers with 29 points, displaying a high-level
skill set with three treys while getting to the charity stripe 10 times.
Justin Mason added 17 points for the Longhorns (5-2), who lost for the first
time in four games.

A.J.Abrams, one of the few returning Longhorns, finished with just seven
points on 3-of-17 shooting.

After Texas drew within 55-51, Gonzaga reeled off 12 straight points to take a
67-51 lead. Pargo’s three-point play capped the stretch with just under 12
minutes left.

Heytvelt’s put back made the score 79-55 with just over eight minutes
remaining, and led 87-59 before Texas scored the final 18 points.

Gonzaga led 43-33 at the half.
