Price and UConn roll past Texas Southern

Storrs, CT (Sports Network) – A.J. Price netted 20 points as 20th-ranked
Connecticut rolled past Texas Southern, 106-55, at the Harry A. Gampel
Pavilion.

Price was 4-of-5 from beyond the arc for the Huskies (7-0), who shot 57
percent from the field as a team. Jerome Dyson added 19 points and Doug
Wiggins had 17.

Leonta Matthews was the only Texas Southern player in double figures with 10
points as the Tigers (2-6) lost for the third time over their last four games.

The Huskies opened the game on a 12-4 run to take control early. Wiggins
contributed five points during the stretch, including a three-pointer.

Connecticut opened up a 44-21 lead with under four minutes left in the first
half after ripping off a 10-2 stretch. Five different UConn players scored
points during the surge.

The Huskies ended the first half on a 12-4 surge and went into the break with
a commanding 58-28 lead. Price drilled back-to-back shots from beyond the arc
during the stretch and had 12 points at the end of the opening 20 minutes.
Price also dished out five assists in the first half.

Texas Southern had difficulty handling the ball, committing 13 turnovers in
the first half.

UConn continued to dominate and cruised in the second half, outscoring the
Tigers 48-27.

Game Notes

Connecticut leads the all-time series at 2-0…The Huskies have won 26
straight games at home and have won 44 out of their last 48 at Gampel
Pavilion…Texas Southern finished the game with 25 turnovers.
