Adrien, UConn pound Northeastern
Storrs, CT (Sports Network) – Jeff Adrien scored 18 points and pulled down 12
rebounds as 19th-ranked Connecticut throttled Northeastern, 81-53, at Gampel
Doug Wiggins added 14 points off the bench for Connecticut (8-0), which
remained undefeated and continued its dominance over Northeastern. A.J. Price
contributed 13 points while Jerome Dyson had 11.
Bennet Davis had 14 points, pulled down nine boards, swatted four shots and
dished out four assists for Northeastern (2-6), which was coming off a 58-51
decision over defending CAA champ UNC-Wilmington. Matt Janning tallied 13
points while Adrian Martinez netted 12,
Connecticut held Northeastern to just 32 percent shooting in the first half en
route to taking a 35-24 advantage.
Northeastern continued to hang in the game early in the second frame and
trailed 42-34 when Connecticut went on a 21-4 spurt to seize control. A pair
of free throws by Hasheem Thabeet with 8:16 left put Connecticut on top,
Another pair from the charity stripe by Marcus Johnson, just over three
minutes later, gave Connecticut its first 30-point advantage, 72-41, on the
way to the easy win.
Connecticut is now 33-4 versus Northeastern all-time…Northeastern shot just
34 percent in the game and was just 8-of-25 from long range.
