Raivio pushes Gonzaga past Washington

Spokane, WA (Sports Network) – Derek Raivio scored 25 points to lead 18th-
ranked Gonzaga to a 97-77 rout of No. 13 Washington.

Matt Bouldin added 21 points and Josh Haytvelt scored 14 and pulled down seven
rebounds for Gonzaga (9-2), which extended the nation’s longest home winning
streak to 45 games. The Bulldogs moved to 33-0 all-time at the McCarthey
Athletic Center.

Spencer Hawes had 20 points for Washington (7-1), which struggled by going 5-
of-20 from three-point range, and couldn’t overcome a 56-point first half for
the Bulldogs.

Jon Brockman had 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Justin Dentmon also had 13
points for the Huskies.

The Bulldogs, who never trailed, scored the first five points and bolted to a
17-9 cushion early following a three by Raivio. The onslaught continued later
in the half, with Raivio completing a three-point play for a 49-29 advantage
with 3:31 left in the half.

Washington whittled its deficit to 13 at 56-43 at the break, but the Huskies
never got within single digits in the final 20 minutes. Phil Nelson’s three-
pointer brought Washington within 71-60 with 11:34 left, but Raivio countered
with a layup, and David Pendergraft’s free throw pushed the lead to 76-60.

Gonzaga’s lead grew to as much as 22 down the stretch.

Washington leads the all-time series, 29-14. The Bulldogs had won seven in a
row in this series, but Washington brought an end to that with last season’s
99-95 shootout in Seattle…The Bulldogs have several tough games upcoming, as
their next four are against Georgia, Duke, Nevada and Virginia…Gonzaga
outscored Washington in the paint, 50-28…Raivio went 3-for-3 at the foul
line and has made 29 consecutive free throws.
