Notre Dame crushes Elon
South Bend, IN (Sports Network) – Russell Carter scored a game-high 21 points,
pulled down six rebounds and also dished out four assists as 21st-ranked Notre
Dame crushed Elon, 94-63, at the Joyce Center to remain perfect at home this
Carter, the reigning Big East Player of the Week, was 5-of-7 from three-point
land and had 11 of his 21 points in the first half. He came into the game
averaging 16.6 ppg on 45.5 percent shooting from three-point range.
Rob Kurz had a double-double, netting 16 points and grabbing 12 boards for
Notre Dame (8-1), which has won seven straight since its lone defeat, a two-
point setback against Butler. Luke Zeller contributed 14 points and Luke
Harangody came off the bench to donate 12 points and 10 rebounds for the
Devan Carter led Elon (1-7) with 14 points, while Chris Chalko was the only
other player in double figures with 12 points on the night. The Phoenix have
dropped six in a row and entered the contest following a 12-day break for
The Fighting Irish opened the game on a 10-0 run, capped by two free throws
from Zach Hillesland. Brett James finally hit a jump shot to get Elon on the
board, but Notre Dame kept plugging away, opening a 17-point lead on
Harangody’s jumper at 8:17.
Notre Dame closed out the first half with a 47-27 margin and cruised the rest
of the way, as the Phoenix never got any closer than 18 in the second half.
Elon shot 36 percent from the floor to 44 percent for Notre Dame.
The Phoenix made just 6-of-22 three-point attempts, while the Fighting Irish
fared slightly better, draining 10-of-24…Notre Dame had a season-high 55
rebounds…Notre Dame won the only previous meeting with Elon by a 97-71
final back in 1999…Elon is 0-6 on the road this season.
