Martin leads Wichita State past Kennesaw State

Wichita, KS (Sports Network) – Ryan Martin poured in a career-high 19 points
and No. 8 Wichita State needed every one of them, staving off Kennesaw State,
74-65, in second-round action of the Las Vegas Holiday Classic.

P.J. Couisnard donated 15 points and seven assists for the Shockers (9-0), who
have climbed the college basketball mountain this season thanks to early-
season victories over LSU and Syracuse.

The victory, albeit difficult against overmatched Kennesaw State (2-8), kept
Wichita State unbeaten through nine games, tying a school record set in
1920-21 and tied two years ago.

Golden Ingle scored a game-high 26 points for the Owls, who played the
Missouri Valley Conference power tough despite being in only their second year
in Division I.

They actually led a shocked Shockers club by seven in the first half, and
used a 12-0 burst late in the second half to draw within 59-56. Shaun
Stegall’s two free throws with 2:51 left capped the stretch.

Karon Bradley stabilized things with a driving layup on the next possession,
triggering a 7-0 run that put the game away.

Wichita State held a slim 35-32 lead at the half.
