UConn crushes Coppin State

Hartford, CT (Sports Network) – Jeff Adrien paced six Connecticut players in
double figures with 16 points and also pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the
12th-ranked Huskies to an 84-41 rout of Coppin State at the Hartford Civic

Curtis Kelly netted 14 while A.J Price and Hasheem Thabeet each added 11
points for the Huskies (11-0), who won the rebounding battle 64-33. Price also
dished out eight assists and Thabeet grabbed 12 boards.

Ethan Kennedy scored 12 points and Tywain McKee had 11 points and nine
rebounds for Coppin State (2-10), who have lost five straight. Darryl Roberts
chipped in 10 points in the loss.

The Huskies jumped out to a 25-8 lead, including seven from Price and six from
Doug Wiggins, as Coppin State missed its first 14 shots and didn’t get on the
board until the 11:22 mark.

Connecticut then finished off the half with a 16-7 spurt, highlighted by back-
to-back dunks from Thabeet, for a 41-15 blowout.

UConn connected on 50 percent of its first-half shots from the floor, compared
to the Eagles, who drained just five field goals and shot a paltry 14 percent
from the floor, including 2-of-11 from long distance.

McKee’s layup cut the deficit in half, 54-27, but it was never a conetest in
the second half.

The Eagles got as close as 26 on a number of occasions, the last on Roberts
layup with just over seven minutes to play, narrowing the gap to 62-36, but
the Huskies closed out the game with a 22-5 burst.
