No. 2 North Carolina steamrolls over Rutgers

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) – Brandan Wright had 19 points and pulled
down seven rebounds as the second-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels cruised to
an 87-48 victory over Rutgers at Smith Center.

Freshman Wayne Ellington went 5-of-6 from three-point range and contributed 17
points for the Tar Heels (11-1), who have reeled off eight straight wins.

With leading scorer J.R. Inman and starter Anthony Farmer both serving one-
game suspensions for academic reasons, senior forward Adrian Hill paced
Rutgers (6-6) with 13 points and eight rebounds. The Scarlet Knights came into
the night riding a five-game winning streak for the first time since the
2003-04 season but the contest got out of hand early on.

Rutgers actually jumped out to a slim one-point lead and trailed just 9-7
before the Tar Heels began to pull away thanks to the strong play of their
starting five. Ty Lawson paced the effort down the stretch as North Carolina
went on a 10-4 spurt and led 33-19 at the break.

Rutgers made just 8-of-28 shots in the first 20 minutes of the contest.

The Tar Heels opened the second half on a 23-9 run and more than doubled their
lead later on, holding an 82-39 margin with just 3:50 remaining in the game.

North Carolina shot 65 percent in the second half.

Lawson finished with six points and nine assists for North Carolina…Wright
went 8-for-10 from the field and had three blocks…The contest marked the
