No. 21 Volunteers survive scare from East Tennessee State

Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) – Chris Lofton scored a career-high 28 points,
as the 21st-ranked Tennessee Volunteers topped intra-state foe East Tennessee,
93-88, in Knoxville in a non-conference clash.

JaJuan Smith posted 23 points and six rebounds for Tennessee (12-2), which has
won eight straight games, and is now a perfect 8-0 at home. Ramir Smith scored
11 points and Dane Bradshaw added 10.

Courtney Pigram scored 19 points for ETSU (8-6), which had a three-game
winning streak snapped but has won six of the last eight outings.
Andrew Reed posted 17 points and 15 rebounds and Dequan Twilley added 17
points.

Pigram scored a jumper with 31 seconds left to make it a six-point game, but
Lofton converted four straight free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

After UT rolled out to a 35-17 lead, the Buccaneers took off on an 18-1 run
sparked by an Eryk Thomas dunk with 6:42 remaining and trailed just 41-39 at
halftime.

However, UT regained control in the second, outscoring ETSU by three to claim
the victory.

Tennessee shot 26-for-58 (44.8 percent) from the field, compared to 35-for-66
(53 percent) by the Buccaneers, who outrebounded UT 35-33.
