McRoberts, No. 5 Duke best San Jose State

Durham, NC (Sports Network) – Josh McRoberts scored 15 points and grabbed 17
rebounds, as fifth-ranked Duke pulled away in the second half for a 70-51
victory over San Jose State at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

DeMarcus Nelson added 13 points and Greg Paulus chipped in 12 for the Blue
Devils (12-1), who have won eight in a row since their lone loss against

Duke extended the nation’s longest non-conference home winning streak to 50
games and will host Temple on Tuesday before tipping off ACC play next
Saturday at home against Virginia Tech.

Carlton Spencer scored 11 points for San Jose State (1-11), which has lost
five in a row. The overmatched Spartans shot just 32.8 percent and made only
one of their 12 three-point tries.

Duke never trailed and the game was tied just once at 2-2. The Blue Devils
extended a three-point edge with a 10-4 run, as a bucket by Gerald Henderson
made it 21-12 with just over 11 minutes left in the first half.

A steal and a layup by Nelson gave the Blue Devils a 32-18 cushion and a pair
of free throws by Nelson a few moments later gave Duke its largest advantage
of the opening 20 minutes at 16.

San Jose State closed the half with the final eight points to pull within
34-26 at the break. Spencer could have made it closer in the final seconds,
but missed a three-pointer.

The Spartans shot just 33.3 percent in opening half and missed each of their
six three-point tries. Duke shot 50 percent from the field, but 10 turnovers
kept San Jose State somewhat close.

Spencer started the second half with a three and soon after connected on a
jumper in the paint to pull San Jose State within 36-33. Duke, though,
responded with nine straight points and a shot from beyond the arc by Paulus
made it 45-33.

The Spartans got only as close as nine and Duke then ran off 12 straight
points to build a 61-40 lead with just over seven minutes remaining. The Blue
