down nine rebounds as second-ranked North Carolina crushed Penn, 102-64, at
the Dean E. Smith Center. Tyler Hansbrough added 19 points while Wayne
Ellington added 17 for the Tar Heels (13-1), who have won their past 10 games.
Ibrahim Jaaber had a game-high 21 points and eight assists and was the only
scorer in double-figures for the Quakers (6-6), who have dropped their last
two games.

12th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish cruised to a 78-62 win over the
Louisville Cardinals in the Big East opener for both teams. Luke Harangody
scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds for Notre Dame (13-1, 1-0 Big
East), which won its 12th straight after its only loss of the season, a 71-69
setback to Butler on November 13. Tory Jackson scored 14 points, and Rob Kurz
scored 10 points and raked in nine boards for the Fighting Irish. Terrence
Williams led Louisville (10-5, 0-1 Big East) with 18 points and six rebounds
on 7-of-12 shooting, and hit 4-of-7 from behind the three-point line. Derrick

(14-1, 1-0 MWC), winners of ten straight games. Matt McCraw added 16,
including four three-pointers. Jason Smith had 19 points for Colorado State
(10-3, 0-1), which saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end. Cory Lewis
scored 18, with four three-pointers of his own, and Stuart Creason picked up
12 points and eight rebounds in a losing cause.

high nine boards for the Tigers. Al Thornton netted 19, Isaiah Swann scored
13, and Jason Rich picked up 12 for Florida State (12-3, 0-1 ACC), which
had its eight-game winning streak snapped, and lost its first home game of
the season.

Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) – Frank Young scored a career-high 25
points, as the 25th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers came away with a 67-56
victory in a Big East clash with the Villanova Wildcats. Young also drained a
career-high eight three-pointers on 13 attempts for West Virginia (12-1, 2-0
Big East), which has posted seven consecutive victories. The most impressive
win of all came on Saturday, as the Mountaineers knocked off national
powerhouse UConn by an 81-71 final. Joe Alexander scored 16 points and
Alex Ruoff added 11. Curtis Sumpter notched 21 points and seven boards for
Villanova (10-3, 0-1), which played its first game against a league opponent,
and the team is 4-2 in Big East openers under Jay Wright. The Wildcats
were coming off an 83-65 victory over Temple on Saturday, the third
straight win for the team. Mike Nardi added 12 points.
