Hendrix, Crimson Tide top Tigers

Tuscaloosa, AL (Sports Network) – Richard Hendrix had 18 points on 8-of-12
shooting and six rebounds as the 14th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide bested the
No. 13 LSU Tigers, 71-61, at Coleman Coliseum.

Alonzo Gee added 15 points and seven rebounds while Mykal Riley and Jermareo
Davidson each netted 12 for the Tide (14-2, 1-1 SEC), who have won two of
their last three contests. Davidson also grabbed 12 boards in the victory.

Glen Davis led all scorers with 24 points and also pulled down 17 rebounds and
Tasmin Mitchell scored 19 points for the Tigers (11-4, 0-1 SEC), who have lost
two straight games.

The Tigers ran out to an 11-5 lead, behind five points from Mitchell and four
from Darnell Lazare, but Alabama countered with a 28-8 run, which began with a
Hendrix free throw.

His jumper moments later put the Tide in front 14-13, and Brandon Hollinger’s
five straight points capped the burst, for 33-19 margin.

LSU tallied seven of the final nine points of the half, narrowing the gap to

Ronald Steele’s trey extended the lead to 47-36, but the Tigers netted five
straight, cutting the deficit to 47-41.

The Tide netted nine of the next 12 points, culminating with a three-point
play from Davidson, extending the margin to 56-44.

Davis scored the next five points as the Tigers drew within 56-49 with almost
7 1/2 minutes to play, but they would never get any closer than seven points.

Game Notes

Alabama shot 46 percent from the floor, including 9-of-16 from beyond the arc,
while the Tigers connected on 36 percent of their shots from the field and
just 3-of-17 from long distance…LSU welcomes Auburn on Saturday while
Alabama plays at Vanderbilt on January 17.
