No. 13 LSU holds off Auburn

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) – Terry Martin had a game-high 23 points as
13th-ranked LSU held off Auburn for a 65-63 win at the Maravich Center.

Tasmin Mitchell added 12 points and seven rebounds while Glen Davis donated 11
points and 11 rebounds for LSU (12-4, 1-1 SEC), which has won six of its last
seven games.

Rasheem Barrett had 18 points and Quan Prowell added 12 points for Auburn
(11-5, 1-2), which has dropped three of its last four contests.

The game remained close throughout much of the first half, but, with LSU
holding a 17-16 lead, Auburn busted off a 14-2 run and had a 30-19 lead after
Prowell hit two free throws with 3:20 remaining.

LSU closed the gap with three consecutive three-pointers, but Prowell’s jumper
at the buzzer gave Auburn a 32-28 lead heading into the locker room.

It was a tight contest throughout much of the second half.

A three-pointer by Mitchell and a free throw from Davis with 8:29 left in the
game gave LSU a 47-44 lead and a Martin layup with 6:27 remaining made it a
51-47 LSU lead.

LSU carried a five-point advantage for the next couple of minutes before
consecutive baskets from Auburn made it a 57-56 game with 3:21 to play.

LSU, though, then got a layup from Davis and a jumper from Dameon Mason with
1:52 to play for a 61-56 advantage.

Auburn again came back and made it a 64-63 game, LSU advantage, when Barrett
drained a three-pointer, but Martin hit on one of two free throws. Kelvin
Lewis’ three-point attempt with five seconds to play missed and Mason pulled
down the rebound and ran out the clock.
