Memphis downs Southern Mississippi

Hattiesburg, MS (Sports Network) – Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 23 points, and
the 20th-ranked Memphis Tigers used a big second half to cruise past the
Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, 75-62.

Joey Dorsey had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocked shots for the Tigers
(13-3, 3-0 Conference USA), who won their fifth straight. Robert Dozier scored
11 points for Memphis.

Craig Craft scored 21 points to lead Southern Mississippi (11-4, 1-1), which
had won three of four entering the game. Jeremy Wise scored 13 points for the
Golden Eagles. Sai’Quon Stone and Jarvis Hill scored nine points apiece in
the losing effort.

A three-pointer by Craft brought the Golden Eagles to within 62-59 with just
under five minutes left in regulation. Jeremy Hunt answered with a three,
though, putting the Tigers up 65-59, just 29 seconds later.

Craft hit a free throw to pull the host team back to within 65-60 with 4:14
left, but the Tigers shut the lights out on the Southern Miss offense. The
Golden Eagles only hit one field goal the rest of the way, and the Tigers
closed the game on a 10-2 run to clinch the win.

Southern Miss stayed with Memphis throughout the first half, and the Tigers
only led 31-26 at the intermission.

Game Notes

The loss was Southern Mississippi’s first at home, where they had won their
first 10 games…Memphis outrebounded the Golden Eagles, 34-30.
