Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) – Aaron Brooks hit the game-winning layup, as a
pair of high-scoring Pac-10 powers collided in Tucson, with the
15th-ranked Oregon Ducks edging the 10th-ranked Arizona Wildcats, 79-77.
Brooks and Bryce Taylor both scored 21 points for Oregon (16-1, 4-1), which
won 13 straight games to open the season before finally falling to USC by two
points. Since that setback, the Ducks have won three straight games, including
a 60-55 decision over Arizona State on Thursday. Malik Hairston posted 18
points and eight rebounds, while Marty Leunen added 14 points and 14 boards in
the win. Williams posted 34 points and 12 boards for Arizona (13-3, 4-2),
which lost its first game at McKale Center this season. The Wildcats lost
their season opener to Virginia, but they have only lost one other game
since then to Washington State in overtime. Mustafa Shakur notched 21 points
and five assists, and Jawann McClellan had 12 points. Ivan Radenovic added 13
boards in defeat.
