Duquesne player hospitalized with blood clots
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) – Almany Thiero, a center for the Duquesne
Dukes, was admitted to Pittsburgh’s Mercy Hospital in the early hours of
Friday morning for treatment of blood clots in his lungs, head coach Ron
Everhart confirmed on Friday.
“Our concern right now is with Al and his family,” said Everhart. “Fortunately
he got to the hospital in time for the proper tests to be run and he’s resting
Thiero has spent much of his collegiate career recovering from an array of
injuries, including stress fractures in his legs, an ACL injury, and his bout
with blood clots.
The 6-9, 255 pound center is averaging 2.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 11.5
minutes per game this season.
