Reynolds leads Villanova to upset of No. 21 Texas

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Scottie Reynolds poured in 26 points to
lead the Villanova Wildcats to their second straight win over a nationally-
ranked opponent, with a 76-69 victory over 21st-ranked Texas at the Wachovia

Dante Cunningham added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats (13-5),
who defeated 20th-ranked Notre Dame on Wednesday. Mike Nardi added 13
points in the victory.

Shane Clark added a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards for Villanova,
which has won three of its last four games overall.

D.J. Augustin netted 25 points for the Longhorns (13-5), who have lost two
straight. On Tuesday, Texas lost in triple-overtime to Oklahoma State on the

Texas Freshman sensation Kevin Durant had 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting from
the field, with 11 coming in the first half. A.J. Abrams contributed 19 points
in the loss and was 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.

Leading by three points in the second half, the Wildcats ripped off an 8-0 run
to take a 48-37 lead with about 12 1/2 minutes to play. Cunningham hit back-
to-back jump shots to close out the stretch for Nova.

Villanova continued to run in front in the half and used a 7-0 surge to
increase its lead to 65-52 with about 5 1/2 minutes to play. Reynolds capped
the run with a layup off a fast break.

Texas then started to chip away at the lead and used a 7-0 run to pull to
within 68-66 with under 2 1/2 minutes to play. Abrams drilled a deep three-
pointer to end the stretch for the Longhorns.

Villanova then responded with four consecutive free throws to lead 72-66 with
44 ticks on the clock. J.D. Lewis was then fouled on an attempt from beyond
the arc, and hit all three shots from the charity stripe to make it a three-
point game.

That was as close as the Longhorns were able to get as Nova hit its free
throws down the stretch.

The Wildcats ended a defensive orientated first half on a 5-0 run to take a
26-23 lead into the break. Reynolds led Villanova with seven points at the
