Lofton sidelined for Vols

Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) – Tennessee will go into Wednesday’s game at
Mississippi without leading scorer Chris Lofton, who is sidelined with a
sprained ankle.

Lofton suffered the injury in the second half of Saturday’s 64-61 home win
over South Carolina. He could be sidelined for more than a game, according to
Volunteers coach Bruce Pearl, who addressed the issue Monday.

“When you lose any player, the others have to step up a little,” Pearl said.
“When it’s your best player, they have to step up a lot. We’ll have guys move
around and play different positions. There will be increased minutes for
some.”

Lofton is averaging 21.5 points per game this season, which is tops in the
Southeastern Conference.
