Notre Dame dismisses G McAlarney
South Bend, IN (Sports Network) – Notre Dame has reportedly dismissed guard
Kyle McAlarney from its men’s basketball team and the school.
The South Bend Tribune reported on Tuesday, citing sources close to the team,
that McAlarney was dismissed from the team following his arrest last month on
misdemeanor marijuana possession.
McAlarney’s removal is effective immediately, but he can apply for
readmittance for the summer session. He had been taking classes for the spring
semester since last Tuesday.
On December 28, McAlarney was pulled over near campus and police found
marijuana in the sophomore’s car. He was suspended indefinitely after the
arrest and has missed the Irish’s last seven games.
McAlarney started the first 12 games of the season for Notre Dame and averaged
10.3 points and a team-high 5.4 assists per game.
