Tar Heels storm past Hurricanes

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) – Tyler Hansbrough netted a game-high 22
points and 13 rebounds to lead the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels to a
105-64 victory over the Miami-Florida Hurricanes at the Smith Center.

Wayne Ellington had 14 points while Ty Lawson added 13 points for the Tar
Heels (20-2, 6-1 ACC), who have won their past five games.

Anthony Harris had 18 points while Jack McClinton added 15 points for the
Hurricanes (9-13, 2-6), who have dropped their last five contests.

The Tar Heels started the contest with a 9-2 run and a bit later scored six
consecutive points and had a 15-6 lead after Hansbrough drained a jumper a
little less than seven minutes in.

The Hurricanes kept the game close for the next several minutes as they
exchanged baskets with North Carolina.

However, North Carolina closed out the half on a 12-3 run, with Ellington
hitting consecutive three-pointers, and took a 41-24 lead into the locker

Hansbrough and Ellington each had nine points in the first half.

The Hurricanes started the second half with the first six points and made it a
41-30 game on Denis Clemente’s basket less than three minutes in.

The Tar Heels responded with a 13-2 run and treys by Lawson and Wes Miller
gave the team a 54-32 lead with a little under 14 minutes to play.

Miami-Florida responded with a three-pointer by McClinton, but North Carolina
scored the next 10 points to put the game away as the Hurricanes never
seriously threatened the remainder of the game.

Game Notes

Danny Green had 12 points for North Carolina…The Tar Heels shot 56 percent,
including 12-of-24 from three-point range, in the contest while Miami-Flordia
hit 35 percent of its shots…North Carolina dominated on the boards,
49-24…The Tar Heels lead the series with the Hurricanes, 10-2, including a
6-1 record at the Smith Center.
