Graves leads No. 13 Butler past Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) – A.J. Graves recorded a game-high 20 points
on 7-of-14 shooting, as 13th-ranked Butler defeated the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 66-47, at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Mike Green posted 14 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (22-2, 10-1
Horizon), winners of eight straight games. Pete Campbell contributed nine
points and three assists for the top team in the Horizon League.
Ricky Franklin had 17 points and four boards for the Panthers (8-17, 5-7), who
have dropped three of four. Paige Paulsen notched 10 points and also grabbed
four rebounds in the loss.
Butler ran off the game’s first nine points, but UWM turned around with an 8-0
run of their own, only to see the Bulldogs immediately rip off the next 10 for
a 19-8 lead with 7:23 to play. After Franklin and Graves traded three-
pointers, Graves’ two from the line keyed a 13-7 run and the Bulldogs took a
34-18 lead at the break.
Green’s easy lay-in just under three minutes into the second half boosted
Butler’s lead to 42-18, then Campbell’s long three with 6:38 gone restored
that 24-point advantage, 47-23. The Panthers would not get any closer than 17
points the rest of the way, and the Bulldogs coasted to the victory.
Butler leads the all-time series, 24-9…The Bulldogs shot 55 percent (11-
of-20) from the floor in the first half, while UWM hit just 29 percent (7-
of-24)…Butler won the battle of the boards by a slim 31-29 margin, and
committed seven turnovers to the Panthers’ nine.
