Crimson Tide edge Gamecocks

Tuscaloosa, AL (Sports Network) – Mykal Riley scored 15 points, 14 in the
second half, as the 19th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide edged the South Carolina
Gamecocks, 64-61.

Richard Hendrix scored 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Crimson Tide
(17-5, 4-4 SEC). Alonzo Gee scored 12 points for Alabama, which won its second
in a row. Jermareo Davidson finished with nine points and 10 boards.

Bryce Sheldon scored 17 points for the Gamecocks (12-9, 2-6), who have lost
two straight, and seven of nine. Tre’ Kelley scored 14 points, and Brandon
Wallace pulled down 11 boards and scored nine points. Dwayne Day scored nine
points for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina had the ball with 18 seconds left, and trailed 61-58, but threw
the ball away, and a chance to tie or cut to within one. Brandon Hollinger
made two free throws with 8.9 seconds left to boost the Alabama lead to 63-58,
seemingly icing the win.

Wallace was able to hit a three with 1.5 seconds remaining, however, and Riley
missed the front end of his ensuing free throws, leaving the Gamecocks with
0.8 seconds left to make a three. South Carolina was unable to get a shot off,
however, and the buzzer sounded.

A Sheldon three put the Gamecocks ahead 26-18 with just under five minutes
left in the first half, the largest lead that either team would enjoy in the
game. Gee powered an 8-2 run all by himself, though, converting a three-point
play, drilling a three, and hitting another basket to bring the Tide to within
28-26 with just over three minutes left.

South Carolina led 32-26 at the intermission.
