Hill and Stanford down California
Berkeley, CA (Sports Network) – Lawrence Hill scored 24 points and had seven
rebounds and four assists as 23rd-ranked Stanford crushed arch-rival
California, 90-71, at Haas Pavilion.
Fred Washington deposited 21 points with eight assists for Stanford (15-6, 7-3
Pac 10) which has won four of its last five games. Brook Lopez recorded 19
points and Anthony Goods added 14 for the Cardinal.
California (12-10, 4-6) was led by Jerome Randle who scored 19 points. Theo
Robinson and Ryan Anderson added 11 points each and Ayinde Ubaka posted 17
points with seven assists for the Golden Bears, who have lost four straight
Stanford jumped out of the gate with a 20-4 run, shooting 8-11 from the field.
California got back in the game with a 16-4 surge late in the half. Randle
scored nine in the stretch.
Stanford held a 35-29 lead at intermission.
After a Ubaka three with 14:40 remaining got the Golden Bears to within four,
44-40, Stanford pulled away with a 12-2 run, highlighted by a Goods floater.
California never threatened thereafter.
Stanford finished 22-24 from the foul line.
