Butler tops Division II Florida-Gulf Coast

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) – Mike Green led a balanced offensive
attack with 24 points and six rebounds as No. 13 Butler cruised past Division
II Florida-Gulf Coast, 79-65, at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

A.J. Graves posted 22 points to go along with four steals for the Bulldogs
(24-3), who rebounded from last Saturday’s 77-65 defeat to Wright State won
for the 10th time in their last 11 contests.

Pete Campbell added 12, Brandon Crone had 11 while pulling down eight
rebounds, and Willie Veasley donated 10 for Butler, which won its 22nd
straight home game.

The Bulldogs shot 49 percent from the floor.

Beau Bauer led the Eagles (22-6) with 17 points and Casey Wohlleb scored 12.
Florida Gulf-Coast, which finished 40 percent shooting from the field, had a
14-game win streak snapped.

After Yavney Neptune drilled a jumper to pull Florida-Gulf Coast within three,
Butler ripped off 14 straight points — capped by Veasley’s layup — for a
31-14 advantage with five minutes left in the first half.

The Eagles responded by scoring 14 of the final 22 points in the frame to make
it a 39-28 game at the break.

In the second, Neptune’s jumper cut Florida-Gulf Coast’s deficit to 49-42 with
9:55 to play, but that would be as close as it would get.

Minutes later, Graves’ three-pointer put the Bulldogs up 18 as they maintained
a double-digit lead the rest of the way en route to their first-ever win in as
many tries against the Eagles.
